Butterfly Bush, Summer Lilac

Common name:Butterfly Bush, Summer Lilac
Botanical name:Buddleja davidii

Butterfly bush is a fast growing deciduous or semi-evergreen shrub ranging from 3' up to 10', with an open, rangy growth habit. It should be cut back nearly to the ground in fall for size control and appearance. Purple, pink, white or red flowers appear in spring and summer, attracting butterflies. Sterile varieties are required in Oregon because of invasive issues. Use 'Asian Moon','Blue Chip', or 'Purple Haze' for example.

Provence Blue Lavandin

Botanical name:Lavandula X intermedia 'Provence'

With tall 24"-30" stems, 'Provence' has true, lavender colored flowers that are fragrant and excellent for cutting. It flowers in early June and has large, gray green leaves.

First Prize Hybrid Tea Rose

Common name:First Prize Hybrid Tea Rose
Botanical name:Rosa 'First Prize'

'First Prize' is a hybrid tea rose of hardy, spreading habit producing high-centered, double, fragrant, two-toned pink flowers with leathery, dark green leaves. This beautiful deciduous plant can reach 4'-5' tall and up to 2.5' wide. It blooms from mid- spring to mid-fall and needs full sun and regular watering. Roses are susceptible to thrips, spider mites, whiteflies and aphids.

Montebretia

Common name:Montebretia
Botanical name:Crocosmia X crocosmiiflora

Montebretia is a bulb, closely resembling gladiolus. Vertical, strap like leaves grow to 3' tall. Brilliant red, coral/apricot, red, red-orange, or bright yellow flowers sit on top of arching stalks during the summer. Plants may wither in winter but come back in spring. It requires sun to part shade. Once this plant is established, it requires little or no summer watering. This plant performs well in containers as it is considered invasive in some areas.

Common Lilac

Common name:Common Lilac
Botanical name:Syringa vulgaris

Forms of the common Lilac grow to a height of 15' and are equally wide, but can be kept smaller with careful shaping. The dark green leaves are roundish, oval and pointed that grow to 5" long. In the spring, clusters of fragrant lilac flowers are borne. The plant requires full sun for proper growth.
